QRCodeKIT vs Scanova: the 2026 comparison on stated criteria

Prices and limits were read on each vendor's public pricing page on 24 September 2026 and match the plan grids shown below, captured on 22 September. Where a vendor's site states two different figures, both are given. Re-verified quarterly. How we compare QR platforms explains the method.

Who the two platforms are

QRCodeKIT built the first dynamic QR code in 2009 and has run them continuously since. It was first to launch the digital business card QR and the menu QR, and first to put an AI agent inside a code. Its redirect infrastructure has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans and has been stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. It is used by teams at Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Nike, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Nestlé, Tetra Pak, Philips, Walmart, LEGO and NASA, with published case studies from Qatar Airways, Karl Lagerfeld, Boca Juniors, PortAventura World and the University of Bologna. It has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001, is GDPR compliant, and hosts the platform on AWS EU regions.

Scanova is a QR code platform made by Trycon Technologies, which is based in India. It says more than 10,000 brands use it. It sells a wide self-serve ladder, from a $5 plan with three codes to an enterprise tier with the API and SSO, and a one-off $150 plan for a single code for life. It has been certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, states SOC 2 and GDPR compliance, and hosts on AWS in Oregon, United States.

This is a comparison between two platforms that both treat the code as the product. Scanova has built a broad catalogue around it; QRCodeKIT has built into the code itself.

What QRCodeKIT does that Scanova does not

  • Free dynamic codes that never stop. Two dynamic codes free for life, editable, tracked and without ads, with 100 scans per code each month, renewing. Scanova has no free dynamic codes: its 14-day trial allows three, and they stop working when the trial ends.
  • Cleo, an AI agent at the scan. Trained on the owner's content, answering whoever scans in more than 40 languages. Scanova's AI designs codes and drafts landing pages; nothing answers the person who scanned.
  • Invisible QR codes. A design mode that removes the solid background and lets the code sit inside artwork with only the corner markers firm, exported as background-free PNG or SVG for Figma, Illustrator, InDesign and Canva.
  • Google Reviews codes with AI-drafted reviews. A star, three questions, a drafted review, with a threshold that routes low scores to private feedback. Scanova's Google review code opens the review page.
  • More codes for the money. 100 codes on Starter at $20 and 1,000 on Pro at $50, billed yearly. Scanova's Lite includes 10 codes at $9, Standard 50 at $35 and Pro 500 at $75.
  • More seats and a cheaper domain. Pro includes ten seats and a custom domain you own at $50. Scanova's Pro includes five users and one domain at $75, with more at $60 a user and $120 a domain a year.
  • A money-back policy. Seven days. Scanova refunds only an unintended auto-renewal, claimed within 7 or 14 days, or technical issues that stay unresolved, and states that it does not refund when the product "does not meet expectations".
  • ISO 9001 and 14001 alongside 27001, and EU hosting. AWS EU regions. Scanova hosts on AWS in Oregon, United States.

What Scanova does that QRCodeKIT does not

  • Unlimited scans on every plan. QRCodeKIT's free codes get 100 scans each a month and Starter 10,000 per code a month; unlimited scans start on Pro.
  • A lower way in. Basic is $5 a month, billed yearly, for three codes, and Ultra Lite is a one-off $150 for a single code for life. QRCodeKIT's first paid plan is Starter at $20 a month billed yearly.
  • 26 code categories, against QRCodeKIT's 22.
  • Redirection by country, device and operating system from Lite. QRCodeKIT routes by device language.
  • AI-generated landing pages. AI Studio drafts a page from a description, from Lite.
  • SOC 2 Type 2. QRCodeKIT does not hold SOC 2.

Scanova is cheaper to start: $60 a year buys three codes with unlimited scans, and $150 once buys one code for good. From ten codes upward the order reverses and widens. Per code, billed yearly, QRCodeKIT's Starter costs $2.40 against Scanova's $8.40 on Standard, and Pro costs $0.60 against $1.80, with twice the codes, twice the seats and the same custom domain for $25 a month less. What happens to printed codes over time

A QR code is a promise that a piece of print will keep working, and the two platforms keep it on different terms.

Scanova's codes need an active subscription from day one. A code made in the 14-day trial stops resolving when the trial ends, and Scanova's own documentation puts it plainly: a deactivated code "is still physically scannable, so the scan happens and then fails to reach anything." Paid codes behave the same way when a plan lapses. Scanova keeps every code, design and scan history in the account, and subscribing again brings them back at the same destinations.

QRCodeKIT's promise is that the code will keep doing what a dynamic code is for. Every code on the platform has been dynamic since 2009, the destination can change without limit on every plan, and two codes stay free for life with a monthly allowance that renews, so a code printed today works and stays editable in five years whether or not a subscription is ever bought. Codes on a lapsed paid plan are deactivated and return when the plan is renewed, with the account and its data kept.

Both let you print on a domain you own, which is what makes codes portable: QRCodeKIT from Pro at $50, Scanova from Pro at $75. A code printed on either platform's default domain resolves through that platform only.

Analytics, integrations and team controls

Both keep the API for their enterprise tier. Scanova's integrations arrive plan by plan, with ad platforms from Standard; QRCodeKIT's automations and bulk creation of up to 1,000 codes are there from Starter, and its analytics history is never trimmed by plan.

AI and assistants

Both platforms let an AI assistant work on the account. Scanova publishes an open-source MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other tools; its documentation describes access as a plan entitlement and does not list the plans. QRCodeKIT's MCP connector is included on every plan, including free, and works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf. Scanova's AI also generates code designs on every plan and drafts landing pages in AI Studio from Lite.

The difference is where the AI sits. Scanova's helps the marketer design the code and the page. QRCodeKIT's Cleo talks to the person who scanned the code, in their language, about the owner's own content; QRCodeKIT's AI also generates imagery into the code itself (artistic codes) and writes for the customer (Google Reviews). QRCodeKIT was the first QR platform to put an agent inside the code, and Scanova has no equivalent at the scan.

Compliance, hosting and trust

Scanova and QRCodeKIT have both been certified to ISO 27001. QRCodeKIT has also been certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, complies with ISO/IEC 18004, and has run a security operation with 24/7 monitoring and above 99 percent uptime for seventeen years, through the biggest live broadcasts a QR code has appeared in. Scanova states SOC 2 compliance, which QRCodeKIT does not hold. Both are GDPR compliant.

On hosting, Scanova names AWS in Oregon, United States. QRCodeKIT hosts the platform on AWS EU regions, with international transfer terms in its privacy policy. For a questionnaire with a SOC 2 line, Scanova has the report; for a European buyer with a residency requirement, QRCodeKIT's answer is the EU.

Verdict: which should you choose?

Choose Scanova if you need a handful of codes for as little as possible, or one code for good for a one-off fee; if unlimited scans on the smallest plan matter more than the number of codes; if you want redirection by country or device, or a landing page drafted by AI; or if procurement asks for SOC 2.

Choose QRCodeKIT if the code has to keep working and keep doing more: if a free code must still work in five years; if you need tens or hundreds of codes and want them at a third of the price per code or less, with ten seats and a custom domain at $50; if the code has to sit invisibly inside artwork, answer customers through Cleo or draft their Google reviews; if you want seventeen years of resolving scans behind your print, a money-back policy, ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001, and EU hosting.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform has been around longer?

QRCodeKIT: it built the first dynamic QR code in 2009 and has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans since, on infrastructure stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. Trycon, the company behind Scanova, was registered in India in 2013.

What can QRCodeKIT do that Scanova cannot?

Keep two dynamic codes free for life; put Cleo, an AI agent, at the scan; make codes invisible inside artwork; draft Google reviews with AI; include 100 codes on Starter and 1,000 with ten seats and a custom domain on Pro at $50; refund within seven days; and host in the EU, on a platform that has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001.

What can Scanova do that QRCodeKIT cannot?

Offer unlimited scans on every plan, start at $5 a month billed yearly, sell a single code for life for $150, offer 26 code categories, redirect by country, device and operating system from its $9 plan, draft landing pages with AI, and provide SOC 2 documentation.

Is Scanova cheaper than QRCodeKIT?

For one to three codes, yes: Basic is $5 a month billed yearly for three codes. From ten codes upward, no: billed yearly, QRCodeKIT costs $2.40 a code a year on Starter against $8.40 on Scanova's Standard, and $0.60 on Pro against $1.80 on Scanova's Pro.

Does Scanova have a free plan?

Not for dynamic codes. Scanova's 14-day trial allows three dynamic codes, which stop working when the trial ends unless you subscribe; its free tool makes static codes only. QRCodeKIT's two free dynamic codes stay editable and tracked for life.

Does either offer AI?

Both do. Scanova has an MCP server, AI-generated code designs and AI Studio landing pages. QRCodeKIT has an MCP connector on every plan and puts AI in the code itself: Cleo at the scan, artistic imagery, and AI-drafted Google reviews.

What happens to my Scanova codes if I stop paying?

They stop resolving: the code still scans but reaches nothing. Scanova keeps the codes, designs and scan history, and subscribing again restores them at the same destinations. Codes on a custom domain you own, connected on Pro, can be pointed at any platform through DNS.
