QRCodeKIT vs Flowcode: the 2026 comparison on stated criteria

Prices and limits were read on each vendor's public pricing page on 23 September 2026 and match the plan grids shown below, captured on 22 September. Where a vendor's site states two different figures, both are given. Re-verified quarterly. How we compare QR platforms explains the method.

Who the two platforms are

QRCodeKIT built the first dynamic QR code in 2009 and has run them continuously since. It was first to launch the digital business card QR and the menu QR, and first to put an AI agent inside a code. Its redirect infrastructure has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans and has been stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. It is used by teams at Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Nike, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Nestlé, Tetra Pak, Philips, Walmart, LEGO and NASA, with published case studies from Qatar Airways, Karl Lagerfeld, Boca Juniors, PortAventura World and the University of Bologna. It has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001, is GDPR compliant, and hosts the platform on AWS EU regions.

Flowcode is operated from New York and sells two products. Flowcode 1, its classic QR code manager, is self-serve from a free plan to Growth. Flowcode 2 is an enterprise conversion platform: audiences, CRM and CDP integrations, tracking pixels and SmartFlow, sold on a usage basis or by contract. Flowcode says it drives more than a billion connections for over 75 percent of Fortune 500 brands and that more than 20,000 businesses build with it. It states SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA compliance.

This is a comparison between two platforms that both treat the code as the product. Flowcode has built outward from the code into marketing data; QRCodeKIT has built into the code itself.

What QRCodeKIT does that Flowcode does not

  • Analytics without a scan cap. Unique and total visits by country, city, device and time, exported as PDF and XLS, with history not capped by plan. Since 29 February 2024 Flowcode's analytics stop showing new scans once the account reaches its cap: 500 on Free, 6,000 on Pro Plus, 10,000 on Growth, counted across all codes combined. Enterprise is uncapped.
  • Cleo, an AI agent at the scan. Trained on the owner's content, answering whoever scans in more than 40 languages. Flowcode's AI designs codes and routes traffic to the best landing page; nothing answers the person who scanned.
  • Invisible QR codes. A design mode that removes the solid background and lets the code sit inside artwork with only the corner markers firm, exported as background-free PNG or SVG for Figma, Illustrator, InDesign and Canva.
  • Google Reviews codes with AI-drafted reviews. A star, three questions, a drafted review, with a threshold that routes low scores to private feedback.
  • An MCP connector on every plan, including free. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf can create and manage codes in plain language. Flowcode does not publish an MCP server.
  • More codes for the money. 100 codes on Starter at $20 and 1,000 on Pro at $50, billed yearly. Flowcode's Pro Plus includes 50 codes at $25; Growth starts at 150.
  • A custom domain from Pro. One domain you own on Pro at $50, several on Enterprise. Flowcode's custom redirect domains start on Growth.
  • Seats without Enterprise. Ten on Pro, fifty on Enterprise, with Admin, Editor and billing roles.
  • A money-back policy. Seven days. Flowcode's terms say subscription payments are non-refundable.
  • ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001, and EU hosting. AWS EU regions. Flowcode does not publish where scan data is hosted.

What Flowcode does that QRCodeKIT does not

  • Unlimited scans on every plan, including free. Flowcode caps the analytics, not the code. QRCodeKIT's free codes get 100 scans each a month, renewing, and Starter 10,000 per code a month; unlimited scans start on Pro.
  • SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA, with a trust portal where the reports and a data processing agreement can be requested. QRCodeKIT has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001 and does not hold SOC 2 or HIPAA.
  • Smart routing by day, device and location from Pro Plus, and Smart Rules for individual landing-page modules on Flowcode 2.
  • A conversion suite. FlowID audiences, native CRM and CDP integrations, audience sync to HubSpot lists, a Shopify revenue pixel that links scans to purchases, and SmartFlow, which sends visitors to the best-performing landing page variant while a test runs.
  • Reporting extras on Growth: scheduled email reports, custom tables, and data integrations to webhooks and Amazon S3.
  • Codes that, per its help centre, keep scanning after a downgrade. Its terms of use say something different; both are quoted under "What happens to printed codes over time" below.

Flowcode's Pro Plus costs $5 more than Starter for half the codes, and its analytics stop counting at 6,000 scans across the whole account. Above Pro Plus the public page shows no price at all: Growth is "Annual only" with a demo button, and only the page's structured data carries a figure, $250 a month. At that figure Growth buys 150 codes and five custom domains, against Pro's 1,000 codes, ten seats and a custom domain at $50, billed yearly or $65 monthly. Where Flowcode is ahead is the free and entry tiers' scan count: its codes never meter scans, where QRCodeKIT meters them until Pro. Full detail on the QRCodeKIT pricing page.

What happens to printed codes over time

A QR code is a promise that a piece of print will keep working, and on this point Flowcode's own pages give two answers.

Its help centre says that after a downgrade to the free plan, only the two most recent codes stay editable and "your Flowcodes will continue to scan", and that upgrading again restores every code. That is a genuine strength: a printed code that outlives the subscription. Its terms of use say that if you cancel, you are moved to the free plan and codes above the free allowance "will be archived and re-directed to flowcode.com or another location of our choosing", with no analytics for archived codes. The same terms let Flowcode terminate or reassign a white-labelled flowcode.com subdomain at its discretion. If your print run depends on this, get the answer in writing before you sign.

QRCodeKIT's promise is that the code will keep doing what a dynamic code is for. Every code on the platform has been dynamic since 2009, the destination can change without limit on every plan, and two codes stay free for life with a monthly allowance that renews, so a code printed today works and stays editable in five years whether or not a subscription is ever bought. Codes on a lapsed paid plan are deactivated and return when the plan is renewed, with the account and its data kept.

Both let you print on a domain you own, which is what makes codes portable: QRCodeKIT from Pro at $50, Flowcode from Growth. A code printed on either platform's default domain resolves through that platform only.

Analytics, integrations and team controls

If your QR programme feeds a CRM, a customer data platform or a retargeting stack, Flowcode's conversion suite goes deeper, and its reports arrive by email. If you need to see every scan without counting against a cap, or more than three people need to work on the account below enterprise pricing, QRCodeKIT's uncapped analytics and ten seats on Pro do that at $50.

AI and assistants

Flowcode's AI works on the brand side of the code. Its AI design generator turns one sentence into a code design and a scan destination, and SmartFlow, on Enterprise, sends visitors to whichever landing-page variant is converting best while a test runs. Flowcode does not publish an MCP server. QRCodeKIT's MCP connector is included on every plan, including free, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or Windsurf can create and manage codes in plain language.

The difference is where the AI sits. Flowcode's helps the marketer design and optimise. QRCodeKIT's Cleo talks to the person who scanned the code, in their language, about the owner's own content; QRCodeKIT's AI also generates imagery into the code itself (artistic codes) and writes for the customer (Google Reviews). QRCodeKIT was the first QR platform to put an agent inside the code, and Flowcode has no equivalent at the scan.

Compliance, hosting and trust

Flowcode's trust portal lists SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA, plus TX-RAMP for Texas public agencies, with penetration tests, a SOC 2 bridge letter and a data processing agreement available on request. Its privacy policy names the operating company in New York and does not say where scan data is hosted.

QRCodeKIT has been certified to ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 14001, complies with ISO/IEC 18004, is GDPR compliant, and has run a security operation with 24/7 monitoring and above 99 percent uptime for seventeen years, through the biggest live broadcasts a QR code has appeared in. It does not hold SOC 2 or HIPAA. It hosts the platform on AWS EU regions, with international transfer terms in its privacy policy.

For a US healthcare buyer, or any questionnaire with a SOC 2 line, Flowcode has the documents. For a European buyer with a residency requirement, QRCodeKIT names the EU and Flowcode names no region.

Verdict: which should you choose?

Choose Flowcode if QR codes are the front door to a marketing data stack: if scans need to become CRM contacts, CDP audiences and retargeting lists, if you want routing by time of day and A/B-optimised landing pages, if procurement asks for SOC 2 or HIPAA, and if an annual contract negotiated through a demo suits you.

Choose QRCodeKIT if the code is the product: if it goes on packaging, a menu, a poster, a ticket or a label and you need to see every scan without a cap; if you want more codes and seats for the money and a custom domain at $50; if the code has to sit invisibly inside artwork, answer customers through Cleo or draft their Google reviews; if you want an AI assistant to run the account through MCP; if you want seventeen years of resolving scans behind your print, a money-back policy, ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001, and EU hosting.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform has been around longer?

QRCodeKIT: it built the first dynamic QR code in 2009 and has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans since, on infrastructure stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. Flowcode does not state a founding year on its own site.

What can QRCodeKIT do that Flowcode cannot?

Show every scan without an analytics cap; put Cleo, an AI agent, at the scan; make codes invisible inside artwork; draft Google reviews with AI; let AI assistants run the account through an MCP connector on every plan; include 100 codes on Starter and 1,000 with ten seats and a custom domain on Pro; refund within seven days; and host in the EU, on a platform that has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001.

What can Flowcode do that QRCodeKIT cannot?

Offer unlimited scans on every plan including free, provide SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA documentation, route codes by day, device and location from its $25 plan, and connect scans to CRM, CDP, HubSpot lists and Shopify purchases through its conversion platform, with SmartFlow optimising landing pages on Enterprise.

Is Flowcode cheaper than QRCodeKIT?

No, at the published prices. Pro Plus is $25 a month billed yearly for 50 codes, against Starter at $20 for 100. Growth shows no price on the card; the page's structured data lists $250 a month for 150 codes, against Pro at $50 for 1,000 codes, ten seats and a custom domain.

What is Flowcode's scan data cap?

A limit on how many scans the analytics will show, counted across all codes on the account: 500 on Free, 6,000 on Pro Plus, 10,000 on Growth, unlimited on Enterprise. It has applied since 29 February 2024, including to existing accounts. The codes keep scanning past it; only the reporting stops. QRCodeKIT does not cap analytics.

Does either offer AI?

Both do. Flowcode has an AI design generator and, on Enterprise, SmartFlow landing-page optimisation. QRCodeKIT has an MCP connector on every plan and puts AI in the code itself: Cleo at the scan, artistic imagery, and AI-drafted Google reviews.

What happens to my Flowcode codes if I cancel?

Flowcode's pages give two answers. Its help centre says codes keep scanning and only the two most recent stay editable; its terms of use say codes above the free allowance are archived and redirected to flowcode.com or another location of its choosing. Codes on a custom domain you own, connected on Growth, can be pointed at any platform through DNS. Export your data before you cancel, since archived codes have no analytics.
