QRCodeKIT vs Uniqode (formerly Beaconstac): the 2026 comparison on stated criteria
Prices and limits were read on each vendor's public pricing page on 22 September 2026, and both plan grids are shown as captured that day. Where a vendor's site states two different figures, both are given. Re-verified quarterly. How we compare QR platforms explains the method.

Who the two platforms are
QRCodeKIT built the first dynamic QR code in 2009, a code whose destination could change after printing, and has run them continuously since. It was first to launch the digital business card QR and the menu QR, and first to put an AI agent inside a code. Its infrastructure has been stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP, and it is used by teams at Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Nike, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Nestlé, Tetra Pak, Philips, Walmart, LEGO and NASA, with published case studies from Qatar Airways, Karl Lagerfeld, Boca Juniors, PortAventura World and the University of Bologna. It has been certified to ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 14001, is GDPR compliant, and hosts the platform on AWS EU regions.
Uniqode is the New York company formerly known as Beaconstac. It sells self-serve up to its $99 plan and through sales above it, holds SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001:2022 and GDPR compliance, and publishes the reports, a business associate agreement and a subprocessor list from its trust centre. Its product spans QR codes and a separate digital business card line, and its integrations are built for marketing and CRM stacks.
The comparison is between a platform that has been making the code itself do more for seventeen years, and a platform built to satisfy enterprise procurement around the code.
What QRCodeKIT does that Uniqode does not
- Invisible QR codes. A design mode that removes the solid background and lets the code sit inside artwork with only the corner markers firm. Exports as background-free PNG or SVG for Figma, Illustrator, InDesign and Canva. Still dynamic, still tracked. Uniqode offers brand-matched design and a scannability score; it has no invisible mode.
- Cleo, an AI agent at the scan. Trained on the owner's own content, answering whoever scans in more than 40 languages. A product label, a menu or a property sign becomes something a customer can ask. Uniqode's Una assists the account owner in the dashboard; nothing answers the person who scanned.
- Google Reviews codes with AI-drafted reviews. The customer taps a star, answers three questions and AI drafts the review to post, with a rating threshold that routes low scores to private feedback while keeping the Google link visible.
- AI-designed artistic codes. Imagery generated into the code itself, with more than 90 percent of generated codes fully scannable.
- 22 native code types, including menu, payment through Stripe or PayPal, form, multilingual by device language, file, app store, lead generation and GS1 Digital Link for packaging. Uniqode's types are fewer and its business cards are a separate product with separate plans.
- Automations on events. Native connections to Zapier, Make, n8n and Canva, plus webhooks that fire on a scan, a form submission with its answers, or a successful payment with its amount.
- EU hosting. The platform runs on AWS EU regions. Uniqode lists AWS in the United States.
What Uniqode does that QRCodeKIT does not
- The compliance portfolio. SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA with a business associate agreement, ISO 27001:2022, downloadable from its trust centre. QRCodeKIT has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001 and does not hold SOC 2 or HIPAA. For a US healthcare buyer, or any procurement questionnaire with a SOC 2 line, this decides it.
- API from the $49 plan. QRCodeKIT reserves the API for Enterprise at $150.
- Ad-platform retargeting. Meta Pixel and Google Ads audiences from scan data on Business+. QRCodeKIT supports Google Analytics 4 and UTM, not native retargeting.
- Smart Rules. One code routed by location, language, device or time of day. QRCodeKIT routes by device language through its multilingual type.
- A 30-day money-back window against QRCodeKIT's 7 days, and reactivated codes that come back with their original short URLs.

Plans, pricing and billing
| QRCodeKIT | Uniqode (billed yearly only) | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | Starter $20/mo billed yearly: 100 dynamic codes, 10,000 scans per code per month, advanced analytics and design, page templates, bulk creation | Essential $9/mo: 15 dynamic codes, 50,000 scans a year, 60 days of analytics, 1 seat, bulk creation |
| Middle | Pro $50/mo billed yearly or $65 monthly: 1,000 codes, unlimited scans, 10 seats, 1 custom domain included, premium support | Core $49/mo: 250 codes, 90 days of analytics, GPS, integrations, API |
| Upper | Enterprise $150/mo, yearly or monthly: 5,000 codes, 50 seats, several custom domains, SSO through Okta or ADFS, API | Plus $99/mo: 500 codes, 180 days of analytics, 3 seats; custom domain and SSO as add-ons at $500 a year each per the plan table (its FAQ still shows $2,000 for the domain) |
| Top | Custom volumes on request | Business+ $399/mo: 2,000 codes, lifetime analytics, 5 seats, 2 organisations, domain and SSO included, retargeting. Enterprise custom: white label, SLA, dedicated manager, invoice |
| Free dynamic codes | 2, for life, 100 scans per code per month, renewing | None; static codes only, without analytics |
| Trial | Some accounts receive a 7-day Pro trial; trial codes are deactivated when it ends and reactivated on upgrade | 14 days, no card; dynamic codes go inactive after the trial without a paid plan |
| Monthly billing | Pro and Enterprise; Starter yearly | No |
| Money-back | 7 days | 30 days |
Uniqode's entry price is lower, but Essential holds 15 codes and keeps 60 days of analytics, where Starter carries 100 codes and does not cap history by plan. The custom domain is the sharper difference: QRCodeKIT includes one on Pro at $50 and several on Enterprise; Uniqode has none below Plus and charges for it there. Uniqode's API at Core is the clearest point in its favour on price. Full detail on the QRCodeKIT pricing page.

Put it into practice
Create a dynamic QR code free and see it work. No credit card required.
Get started freeWhat happens to printed codes over time
A QR code is a promise that a piece of print will keep working. QRCodeKIT has kept that promise since 2009: every code on the platform is dynamic, the redirect infrastructure has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans, and codes printed in its first years still resolve today. Two dynamic codes are free for life on every account, so a code printed today works in five years whether or not a subscription is ever bought. Codes on a lapsed paid plan are deactivated and come back when the plan is renewed, with the account and its data kept, and any code can be paused and restored deliberately.
On Uniqode, dynamic codes exist only on a paid plan or during the trial; when either ends, the codes go inactive. Renewing restores them with their original short URLs, which is a genuine courtesy. Uniqode's terms reserve the right to delete account data within 30 days of cancellation, so export before cancelling.
Both let you connect a domain you own, which is what makes printed codes portable between platforms. QRCodeKIT includes it on Pro; Uniqode sells it as an add-on from Plus.
Analytics, integrations and team controls
| QRCodeKIT | Uniqode | |
|---|---|---|
| Scan analytics | Total and unique visits, OS, country, city, time series; PDF and XLS export per code and per project; history not capped by plan | Scans with GPS from Core, device, time; 60, 90 or 180 days of history by plan, lifetime on Business+ |
| Marketing integrations | Google Analytics 4 and UTM; automations to Zapier, Make, n8n and Canva; webhooks on scan, form and payment events | GA4, Zapier, Make, Workato, Google Sheets, Slack, Canva, HubSpot, Pipedrive; Meta Pixel and Google Ads retargeting on Business+ |
| API | Enterprise | From Core, 10 requests a second |
| Team and governance | 10 seats on Pro, 50 on Enterprise; SSO through Okta and ADFS on Enterprise; Admin, Editor and billing roles | 3 seats on Plus, 5 on Business+; SSO as an add-on on Plus, included on Business+ |
| Routing | Multilingual codes by device language | Smart Rules by location, language, device and time of day |
If your QR programme feeds a retargeting stack or a CRM pipeline, Uniqode's integrations are deeper and its API arrives earlier. QRCodeKIT's automation layer covers the common cases and adds payment and form events as webhooks; it does not match Uniqode's native ad-platform connections.
AI and assistants
Both platforms have an AI assistant in the dashboard and an MCP connector, so an assistant such as Claude can manage codes in an account. Uniqode's Una arrived in July 2026 with a connector for Claude and a ChatGPT connector announced. QRCodeKIT's connector works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf and is included on every plan.
The difference is where the AI sits. Uniqode's helps the person who owns the code. QRCodeKIT's Cleo talks to the person who scanned it, and QRCodeKIT's AI also designs the code (artistic codes) and writes for the customer (Google Reviews). QRCodeKIT was the first QR platform to put an agent inside the code, and Uniqode has no equivalent at the scan.
Compliance, hosting and trust
Uniqode holds SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001:2022 and GDPR compliance, with the documents available from its trust centre. For regulated US industries that is decisive, and QRCodeKIT does not match it.
QRCodeKIT has been certified to ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 14001, complies with ISO/IEC 18004, is GDPR compliant, and has run a security operation with 24/7 monitoring and above 99 percent uptime for seventeen years, through the biggest live broadcasts a QR code has appeared in. It does not hold SOC 2 or HIPAA.
Hosting is the reverse picture. Uniqode lists AWS in the United States in its subprocessor list. QRCodeKIT hosts the platform on AWS EU regions, with international transfer terms set out in its privacy policy. A European buyer with a residency requirement should ask both vendors for the data processing agreement and the hosting region in writing; QRCodeKIT's answer is the EU, Uniqode's is the United States.
Verdict: which should you choose?
Choose Uniqode if SOC 2 or HIPAA is a procurement requirement, if your QR data has to flow natively into HubSpot, Pipedrive or ad retargeting, if you need the API below the top tier, or if you are buying for a large US organisation that expects annual contracts and will pay for the custom domain as an add-on.
Choose QRCodeKIT if the code itself has to do more: sit invisibly inside artwork, answer the customer through Cleo, collect Google reviews, take payments, speak the scanner's language, or carry a GS1 Digital Link on packaging. Choose it if you want seventeen years of resolving scans behind your print, monthly billing, a custom domain included at $50, EU hosting, five interface languages, and two codes that stay live for life.
If you are leaving Uniqode, the Uniqode alternatives piece scores six platforms against the same criteria.
Frequently asked questions
Which platform has been around longer?
QRCodeKIT. It built the first dynamic QR code in 2009 and has run them since, resolving more than 1.2 billion scans on infrastructure stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. Uniqode launched as Beaconstac and rebranded in 2024.
What can QRCodeKIT do that Uniqode cannot?
Invisible QR codes inside artwork, Cleo, an AI agent that answers the person who scans, Google Reviews codes with AI-drafted reviews, AI-designed artistic codes, 22 native code types including payment and GS1 Digital Link, webhook automations on scan, form and payment events, EU hosting, and two dynamic codes free for life.
What can Uniqode do that QRCodeKIT cannot?
Provide SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA documentation, offer the API from its $49 plan, route one code by location, language, device or time of day, and retarget scanners through Meta and Google Ads on its Business+ plan.
Is Uniqode cheaper than QRCodeKIT?
At the entry point, yes: $9 a month against $20, both billed yearly, for 15 codes against 100. A custom domain is unavailable on Uniqode below its $99 plan and an add-on there; QRCodeKIT includes one at $50. Uniqode is annual only; QRCodeKIT bills monthly on Pro and Enterprise.
Which is more secure or compliant?
Uniqode holds SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA in addition to ISO 27001:2022 and GDPR, which QRCodeKIT does not match. QRCodeKIT has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001, is GDPR compliant, and hosts in the EU where Uniqode hosts in the United States.
Does either offer AI?
Both do. Uniqode has Una in the dashboard and an MCP connector for Claude. QRCodeKIT has an MCP connector on every plan and puts AI in the code itself: Cleo at the scan, artistic design, and AI-drafted Google reviews.
What happens to my Uniqode codes if I switch?
Codes printed on Uniqode's domain resolve through Uniqode only; if you leave, they die unless you reprint. Codes on a domain you own and connected to Uniqode can be repointed to any platform through DNS. Export your scan history before your annual term ends.
