ME-QR alternatives in 2026: six QR platforms compared on stated criteria
Prices and limits were read on each vendor's public pricing page on 8 October 2026, and the plan grids are shown below as captured that day. Where a vendor's site states two different figures, both are given. Re-verified quarterly. How we compare QR platforms explains the method.

Why people look for a ME-QR alternative
ME-QR gives away more codes than anyone, and the head-to-head comparison credits it for that. Its about page is candid about the price: the only limitation is advertising shown to the people who scan. The searches that bring people here come from four places.
- Your audience sees ads first. Every code on the free plan shows a third-party advertisement, skippable after five seconds, before the content; ME-QR's terms say advertisers "may collect data" from those interactions. ME-QR's Trustpilot score is 3.3 from 583 reviews, and 17 of the 20 most recent one-star reviews, read on 8 October 2026, are about ads or redirects in front of the destination.
- Ads return on printed codes. Lite removes ads from one code; Premium from all of them. ME-QR's FAQ says that when Premium ends, all codes keep working and "ads will be shown again". Ten of the same 20 reviews describe a code that worked when tested and showed ads later, several on business cards and event material.
- No refunds, and a contract abroad. ME-QR's terms operate "a no-refund policy" and refund nothing "under any circumstances" once a plan is paid. Since June 2025 the contracting company is incorporated in the United Arab Emirates, under UAE law with arbitration in Dubai, while its about, GDPR and data processing pages still name a UK company.
- Unused codes are deleted, and the plan details disagree. ME-QR's FAQ says a code not scanned for 365 days is blocked for a month and then permanently deleted, which is a risk for seasonal or archive print. Its pricing page lists Lite at 100,000 codes on the plan card and 10,000 in the comparison table, with one ad-free code "in total"; its plans article says one "per month".
If none of those applies to you, and you value what ME-QR does well, you may be in the right place already.
What ME-QR does well
A fair comparison starts with the reasons to stay. Volume: 10,000 codes on the free plan, a million on Premium, with unlimited scans, users and folders on every plan. A custom domain on the free plan. More than 40 content types. Premium removes every ad for $8.67 a month billed yearly and includes the API. Integrations with Canva, Shopify, Zapier, HubSpot, Gmail, Monday.com, ClickUp, Zoho and Trello, an MCP server that also returns scan analytics, and a ChatGPT app. And hosting in the EU, on Hetzner servers in Germany.
The criteria
- Free codes, and whether the people who scan them see ads.
- The price of ad-free codes: the entry paid plan.
- Monthly billing.
- Custom domain: on which plan, and who owns it.
- What happens to printed codes when a plan lapses, or a code goes unscanned.
- Refunds.
- Compliance stated publicly, and where data is hosted.
- AI beyond design assistance.

The six alternatives
1. QRCodeKIT: best overall alternative
QRCodeKIT invented the dynamic QR code in 2009 and has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans since, on infrastructure stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. It never shows ads, on any code, on any plan. Two dynamic codes are free for life, editable and tracked, with 100 scans per code per month that renew. Starter is $20 a month billed yearly for 100 codes with bulk creation from CSV. Pro is $50 a month billed yearly, or $65 monthly, for 1,000 codes, unlimited scans, ten seats and a custom domain included. Enterprise is $150 a month, billed yearly or monthly, for 5,000 codes, 50 seats, several domains, SSO through Okta or ADFS, and the API. A 7-day money-back policy applies. Full detail on the pricing page.
What it shares with ME-QR: dynamic codes that keep working after a subscription ends (the free codes indefinitely), landing pages, bulk creation, a Canva app, Zapier, Google Analytics and UTM support, an MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf on every plan including free, GDPR compliance and EU hosting, on AWS EU regions.
What ME-QR does not have: no ads on any code; Cleo, an AI agent trained on your own content that answers anyone who scans, in more than 40 languages; invisible QR codes that fade into artwork and still scan; Google Reviews codes where the customer taps a star, answers three questions and AI drafts the review; a money-back policy; and certification: QRCodeKIT has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001.
Weak points against ME-QR: far fewer codes for the money, a custom domain from Pro rather than free, and the API reserved for Enterprise.
2. Hovercode: best free tier
Three dynamic codes free for life with unlimited scans and no ads, plus a form builder, GS1 Digital Link codes and three months of analytics. Pro is $12 a month for 100 codes in total, one custom domain and twelve months of analytics. Business is $39 for 600 new codes a month, ten domains, the API, bulk creation, CSV export, ten users and GPS. Business Plus is $99 for 2,000 codes a month, 50 domains, 25 users and webhooks. Every plan bills monthly or yearly, with two months free on yearly. The QRCodeKIT vs Hovercode head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with ME-QR: hosting in Germany, on DigitalOcean in Frankfurt, with GDPR stated and a data processing agreement on request; unlimited scans; a Canva app; an MCP server on every plan. Where it differs: no ads on any code, and the free codes do not expire. About nine code types against ME-QR's 40. When a plan lapses, the first three codes stay live, the rest are paused and restored on resubscribing, and codes on a custom domain stop. Refunds within 24 hours of purchase. No certification of its own. A UK company that dates itself to 2022. Visitors from Europe see prices in euros.

3. Flowcode: best for design-led brands
Two free codes with unlimited scans and no ads; the analytics count the first 500 scans on the account, and the codes keep scanning after that. Pro Plus is $25 a month billed yearly, or $60 monthly, for 50 codes and landing pages, analytics for 6,000 scans, three seats, CSV bulk upload and routing by day, device and location. Growth is $250 a month, billed annually only, for 150 codes, analytics for 10,000 scans, CRM integrations, the API and five custom domains; the card shows the price only when the billing toggle is switched. The QRCodeKIT vs Flowcode head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with ME-QR: free codes with unlimited scans, landing pages, bulk creation, monthly billing on the entry plan. Where it differs: no ads on free codes, designer templates, SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA on its trust portal, an AI design generator, and no MCP server. On cancellation, its help centre says codes keep scanning with the two most recent still editable, while its terms say codes above the free allowance are archived and redirected to flowcode.com or another location of its choosing. Payments are non-refundable under its terms. Flowcode does not say where scan data is hosted. A New York company.

4. QR.io: best for unlimited codes on one plan
One plan, $39.99 a month or $350 a year, with unlimited codes and scans, landing pages, scan statistics, bulk creation, the API and five team members, and no ads on codes. There is no free plan: a 7-day trial, after which dynamic codes pause. The QRCodeKIT vs QR.io head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with ME-QR: very high code counts and the API on its paid plan. Where it differs: no ads, a 7-day refund on the first purchase (renewals excluded), and 14 code types. QR.io lists no custom domain, publishes no integrations and no AI features, and names no hosting location, GDPR position or certification. When a subscription ends, codes go into "paused mode" and return on resubscribing. Its legal pages name no company and give the founders' country as Argentina in the terms and Spain in the privacy policy.

5. QR TIGER: cheapest monthly plan without ads
Three free dynamic codes with 500 scans each; a code stops when its 500 scans are used, and free codes show a QR TIGER logo popup and QR TIGER ads on scan, so the free tier does not solve the advertising problem. Regular does: $7 a month billed monthly, or $65 a year, for 12 ad-free codes with unlimited scans, 500 API requests a month and a Canva integration. Advanced is $16 a month, billed yearly, for 200 codes with bulk creation, Google Analytics, Zapier and HubSpot. Premium is $37 billed yearly for 600 codes and a custom domain. Professional is $89 billed yearly for 1,200 codes, two users, two domains, Sena, a chat that answers questions about scan data, and an MCP server. The QRCodeKIT vs QR TIGER head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with ME-QR: unlimited scans on paid plans, the API, Canva, Zapier and HubSpot, more than 20 code types including GS1. Where it differs: QR TIGER branding stays on vCard and link-in-bio pages until Premium, and a single user until Professional. When a plan lapses, codes stop; QR TIGER keeps the data for up to a year so a late renewal restores them. It has been certified to ISO 27001:2022 and states GDPR and CCPA readiness on its enterprise page. Hosted on AWS in several countries, region not named. A Singapore company founded in 2018.

6. Scanova: best at very small volume
No free dynamic codes: a 14-day trial with no card, after which its codes stop. Basic is $5 a month, billed yearly only, for three ad-free codes with unlimited scans and 30 days of analytics. Lite is $9 billed yearly or $15 monthly for ten codes, all 26 categories, AI Studio, its AI landing-page generator, Google Analytics, webhooks, password protection and scheduled expiry. Standard is $35, or $50 monthly, for 50 codes, Zapier, ad-platform integrations and white-labelled pages. Pro is $75, or $100 monthly, for 500 codes, five users, GPS, one custom domain and an MCP server, with extra users at $60 and extra domains at $120 a year. The API and SSO are Enterprise. Ultra Lite is a single dynamic code for life for $150. The QRCodeKIT vs Scanova head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with ME-QR: a long list of content types, unlimited scans and a monthly option. Where it differs: no ads on any paid plan, SOC 2 stated, and it has been certified to ISO 27001:2022. When a plan ends, codes are deactivated, kept in the account and restored on subscription. Refunds are limited to an unintended auto-renewal or an unresolved technical issue. Hosted on AWS in Oregon, United States. Operated by Trycon Technologies from India, founded in 2013.

If compliance is why you are leaving ME-QR
ME-QR states GDPR compliance, publishes a data processing agreement and names standard contractual clauses for transfers, but holds no ISO or SOC 2 certification, and its privacy policy still describes Google as certified under the EU-US Privacy Shield, the framework the EU Court of Justice invalidated in 2020. Its documents also disagree on which company processes your data: the terms name the UAE company, the data processing agreement the UK one.
Be precise about which document you need. Flowcode states SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA. Scanova states SOC 2 and, like QR TIGER and QRCodeKIT, has been certified to ISO 27001; QRCodeKIT has also been certified to ISO 9001 and 14001. Hovercode states GDPR and offers a data processing agreement, without a certification of its own.
If EU hosting is why you chose ME-QR, two alternatives keep it: QRCodeKIT on AWS EU regions and Hovercode in Germany. Of the three, QRCodeKIT is the one that has been certified to ISO 27001. Scanova names the United States; Flowcode, QR TIGER and QR.io do not name a region.
What happens to your printed codes
This is the question that matters most once codes are on packaging, signage or print, and the answers differ more than the prices do.
- ME-QR: codes keep working on every plan, with ads on all of them unless Premium is active; a code not scanned for 365 days is blocked for a month, then deleted.
- QRCodeKIT: the two free codes keep working indefinitely, with no ads. Codes on a lapsed paid plan are deactivated and come back when the plan is renewed; the account and data stay.
- Hovercode: the first three codes stay live; others pause and return on resubscribing. Codes on a custom domain stop.
- Flowcode: its help centre says codes keep scanning after cancellation, with the two most recent still editable; its terms say codes above the free allowance are archived and redirected.
- QR.io: codes pause when the subscription ends and return on resubscribing.
- QR TIGER: codes stop; data kept for up to a year for a late renewal.
- Scanova: codes stop; kept in the account and restored on subscription.
Only two platforms let a code you print today work, free of ads, in five years without paying: QRCodeKIT for two codes with a renewing monthly allowance, and Hovercode for three codes with unlimited scans.
How to move without reprinting
ME-QR is one of the few platforms that lets a free account put its codes on a custom domain, and that is your exit route. ME-QR's terms say that once a domain is added, all codes on the account use it; if your printed codes resolve through a domain you own, you can point that domain at another platform by changing its DNS record, and recreate the codes there with the same paths where the new platform allows it. Codes printed on ME-QR's own domain resolve through ME-QR only, and moving them means reprinting.
If you reprint, put the new codes on a domain you own: QRCodeKIT includes one on Pro, Hovercode on Pro, QR TIGER on Premium, Scanova on Pro and Flowcode on Growth; QR.io lists none. Export your scan history first, and remember that ME-QR keeps it for one year on free and three on paid plans.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best ME-QR alternative?
For most teams, QRCodeKIT: no ads on any code, two dynamic codes free for life, a 7-day money-back policy, EU hosting, and three things no other platform on this list offers: Cleo, an AI agent that answers whoever scans, invisible QR codes, and Google Reviews codes with AI-drafted reviews. Hovercode for the most generous free tier, Flowcode for design and HIPAA, QR.io for unlimited codes on one plan, QR TIGER and Scanova for a few ad-free codes at a few dollars a month.
Is there a free QR code generator without ads?
Yes. QRCodeKIT's two free dynamic codes never show ads and keep working for life, with 100 scans per code each month, renewing. Hovercode's three free codes have unlimited scans and no ads, and Flowcode's two free codes are ad-free, with analytics for the first 500 scans. ME-QR's and QR TIGER's free codes show advertising to the people who scan.
Why do my ME-QR codes show ads?
ME-QR funds its free plan with advertising shown to the people who scan. Lite removes ads from one code and Premium from all of them; when Premium ends, the ads come back on every code, including codes already printed.
What is the cheapest way to get ad-free QR codes?
For two or three codes, free: QRCodeKIT keeps two and Hovercode three, with no ads. Beyond that, Scanova's Basic is $5 a month billed yearly for three codes, QR TIGER's Regular $7 a month for 12, Hovercode's Pro $12 a month for 100, and QRCodeKIT's Starter $20 a month billed yearly for 100. Staying on ME-QR, Premium removes all ads for $8.67 a month billed yearly.
Can I move my ME-QR codes without reprinting?
Only if they were printed on a domain you own. Point that domain at your new platform and recreate the codes there. Codes on ME-QR's own domain resolve through ME-QR and have to be reprinted.
Does any alternative keep data in the EU, like ME-QR?
Yes. QRCodeKIT hosts on AWS EU regions and Hovercode in Germany. QRCodeKIT is the one of the three that has been certified to ISO 27001, and neither shows ads on any code.
Two free dynamic QR codes. Yours forever.
No credit card. No expiry. The original dynamic QR platform since 2009.
