QR.io alternatives in 2026: six QR platforms compared on stated criteria
Prices and limits were read on each vendor's public pricing page on 8 October 2026, and the plan grids are shown below as captured that day. Where a vendor's site states two different figures, both are given. Re-verified quarterly. How we compare QR platforms explains the method.

Why people look for a QR.io alternative
QR.io is a simple generator with one honest selling point, unlimited codes on one plan, and the head-to-head comparison credits it. The searches that bring people here come from four places.
- Codes that pause after the trial. QR.io has no free plan. Its help centre says that when the 7-day trial ends, "Dynamic QR codes will be paused"; static codes keep working. Of the 20 most recent one-star reviews on Trustpilot, read on 8 October 2026, 11 describe codes that stopped working after they were printed on business cards, flyers or invitations.
- One price, however few codes. $39.99 a month, or $350 a year, is the only option. For a team that needs three codes for a menu and a sign, that is the same bill as for three thousand. Eleven of the same 20 reviews call the ongoing charge too high for one or a few codes.
- Narrow refunds. QR.io refunds in full within 7 days of the first purchase. Its refund policy excludes renewals and lets it decline a refund for "excessive usage" in that window. QR.io's overall Trustpilot score is 4.2 from more than 14,000 reviews; the complaints cluster on trials, renewals and paused codes.
- No room to grow. QR.io lists no custom domain, so every dynamic code resolves through qr.io, qr.codes or qr.link. It publishes no integrations and no AI features, allows five team members, and its privacy policy names no hosting location, no GDPR position and no certification. Its legal pages name no company, and give the founders' country as Argentina in the terms and Spain in the privacy policy.
If none of those applies to you, and one plan with unlimited codes and the API suits you, you may be in the right place already.
What QR.io does well
A fair comparison starts with the reasons to stay. One plan covers everything: unlimited codes and unlimited scans, landing pages, scan statistics, bulk creation, the API and five team members, at $39.99 a month or $350 a year, billed in US dollars wherever you are. It lists 14 code types, including menu, coupon, feedback, event and PDF. It refunds the first purchase in full within 7 days. And when a subscription ends, codes go into "paused mode" rather than being deleted, and come back when you resubscribe on the same account.
The criteria
- Free dynamic codes, and whether they keep working.
- The price of a few codes: the entry paid plan.
- Monthly billing.
- Custom domain: on which plan, and who owns it.
- What happens to printed codes when a plan lapses.
- Integrations and API.
- Compliance stated publicly, and where data is hosted.
- AI beyond design assistance.

The six alternatives
1. QRCodeKIT: best overall alternative
QRCodeKIT invented the dynamic QR code in 2009 and has resolved more than 1.2 billion scans since, on infrastructure stress-tested at the Oscars, the Super Bowl and MotoGP. Two dynamic codes are free for life, editable and tracked, with 100 scans per code per month that renew, and no ads. Starter is $20 a month billed yearly, $240 a year, for 100 codes with bulk creation from CSV. Pro is $50 a month billed yearly, or $65 monthly, for 1,000 codes, unlimited scans, ten seats and a custom domain included. Enterprise is $150 a month, billed yearly or monthly, for 5,000 codes, 50 seats, several domains, SSO through Okta or ADFS, and the API. A 7-day money-back policy applies. Full detail on the pricing page.
What it shares with QR.io: editable dynamic codes, landing pages, scan statistics, bulk creation, a 7-day money-back policy, and codes on a lapsed paid plan that come back when you renew, with the account and its data kept.
What QR.io does not have: a free plan whose dynamic codes keep working; Cleo, an AI agent trained on your own content that answers anyone who scans, in more than 40 languages; invisible QR codes that fade into artwork and still scan; Google Reviews codes where the customer taps a star, answers three questions and AI drafts the review; 22 code types including payment, multilingual, form and GS1 Digital Link; automations to Zapier, Make, n8n and Canva with webhooks on scan, form and payment events; an MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf on every plan including free; a custom domain you own; and EU hosting on AWS EU regions, on a platform that has been certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 14001.
Weak points against QR.io: codes are counted by plan rather than unlimited, and the API is reserved for Enterprise. Above 100 codes, QR.io's $350 a year costs less than Pro's $600, which adds ten seats and the domain.
2. Hovercode: best free tier
Three dynamic codes free for life with unlimited scans and no ads, plus a form builder, GS1 Digital Link codes and three months of analytics. Pro is $12 a month for 100 codes in total, one custom domain and twelve months of analytics. Business is $39 for 600 new codes a month, ten domains, the API, bulk creation, CSV export, ten users and GPS. Business Plus is $99 for 2,000 codes a month, 50 domains, 25 users and webhooks. Every plan bills monthly or yearly, with two months free on yearly. The QRCodeKIT vs Hovercode head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with QR.io: unlimited scans, bulk creation and the API on its middle plans, a short monthly commitment. Where it differs: free codes that do not pause, a custom domain from $12, an MCP server on every plan, Canva, Figma and Airtable integrations, and an experimental AI design generator. When a plan lapses, the first three codes stay live, the rest are paused and restored on resubscribing, and codes on a custom domain stop. Hosted on DigitalOcean in Frankfurt with GDPR stated and a data processing agreement on request, and no certification of its own. Refunds within 24 hours of purchase. A UK company that dates itself to 2022. Visitors from Europe see prices in euros.

3. ME-QR: best for volume, if you pay to remove the ads
The free plan has 10,000 codes with unlimited scans and a custom domain, and shows advertising on every code: the person who scans sees a Google ad, skippable after five seconds, before your content. Lite is $6.08 a month billed yearly, or $9.99 monthly, and removes ads from one code ("in total" on the pricing page, "per month" in ME-QR's plans article); its plan cards list 100,000 codes and its comparison table 10,000. Premium is $8.67 a month billed yearly, or $15.99 monthly, for a million codes, all ad-free, with the API and an email after each scan. The QRCodeKIT vs ME-QR head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with QR.io: very high or unlimited code counts, landing pages, bulk creation, the API on a paid plan. Where it differs: monthly prices from $9.99, more than 40 content types, integrations with Canva, Shopify, Zapier, HubSpot and others, an MCP server and a ChatGPT app. When Premium ends, codes keep working and the ads come back; any code not scanned for 365 days is blocked for a month and then deleted. ME-QR refunds nothing "under any circumstances". Hosted on Hetzner in Germany, with GDPR stated and no ISO or SOC 2 certification. Its terms name a company in the United Arab Emirates; its about page names a UK company founded in 2021.

4. QR TIGER: cheapest monthly plan
Three free dynamic codes with 500 scans each; a code stops when its 500 scans are used, and free codes show a QR TIGER logo popup and QR TIGER ads on scan. Regular is $7 a month billed monthly, or $65 a year, for 12 codes with unlimited scans, no ads, 500 API requests a month and a Canva integration. Advanced is $16 a month, billed yearly, for 200 codes with bulk creation, Google Analytics, Zapier and HubSpot. Premium is $37 billed yearly for 600 codes and a custom domain. Professional is $89 billed yearly for 1,200 codes, two users, two domains, Sena, a chat that answers questions about scan data, and an MCP server. The QRCodeKIT vs QR TIGER head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with QR.io: unlimited scans on paid plans and the API from the first paid plan. Where it differs: a monthly plan at $7 for a dozen codes, more than 20 code types including GS1, and a team limited to one user until Professional. When a plan lapses, codes stop; QR TIGER keeps the data for up to a year so a late renewal restores them. It has been certified to ISO 27001:2022 and states GDPR and CCPA readiness on its enterprise page. Hosted on AWS in several countries, region not named. A Singapore company founded in 2018.

5. Flowcode: best for design-led brands
Two free codes with unlimited scans and no ads; the analytics count the first 500 scans on the account, and the codes keep scanning after that. Pro Plus is $25 a month billed yearly, or $60 monthly, for 50 codes and landing pages, analytics for 6,000 scans, three seats, CSV bulk upload and routing by day, device and location. Growth is $250 a month, billed annually only, for 150 codes, analytics for 10,000 scans, CRM integrations, the API and five custom domains; the card shows the price only when the billing toggle is switched. The QRCodeKIT vs Flowcode head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with QR.io: landing pages, scan statistics, bulk creation, a monthly option on the entry plan. Where it differs: a free plan whose codes keep scanning, designer templates, SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA on its trust portal, and an AI design generator; no MCP server. On cancellation, its help centre says codes keep scanning with the two most recent still editable, while its terms say codes above the free allowance are archived and redirected to flowcode.com or another location of its choosing. Payments are non-refundable under its terms. Flowcode does not say where scan data is hosted. A New York company; its help centre dates Flowcode 1 to 2019.

6. Bitly: best for link-first teams
Bitly is a link platform that renders a QR code for each short link. Free gives two codes and five links a month with unlimited scans; the destination cannot be changed, there are no analytics, and free links and codes open an ad page before the destination. Core is $10 a month, annual only, for five codes a month and 30 days of data. Growth is $29 billed yearly, or $35 monthly, for ten codes a month, four months of data and a complimentary custom domain that Bitly registers and owns. Premium is $199 billed yearly, or $300 monthly, for 200 codes a month and a year of data. The QRCodeKIT vs Bitly head-to-head covers it in depth.
What it shares with QR.io: the API, available on Bitly from the free plan at 1,000 requests a month. Where it differs: codes and destination changes as monthly quotas rather than a stock, more than 60 integrations, Bitly Assist on paid plans, and an MCP server its pricing table lists on every plan (a help article updated in October 2026 says some paid plans). When a plan lapses, codes on bit.ly keep scanning; on free their destinations can no longer be changed, and codes on the complimentary domain stop when Bitly stops renewing it. SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and CCPA stated; data centres in the United States. Fees are non-refundable. A New York company.

If compliance or procurement is why you are leaving QR.io
QR.io publishes no compliance position at all, so any of the six is a step up on paper. Be precise about which document you need. Flowcode states SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA; Bitly states SOC 2 Type 2. QR TIGER and QRCodeKIT have been certified to ISO 27001, and QRCodeKIT also to ISO 9001 and 14001. Hovercode and ME-QR state GDPR compliance and offer a data processing agreement, without a certification of their own.
Hosting is a separate question. QRCodeKIT names AWS EU regions, Hovercode and ME-QR name Germany, and Bitly names the United States. Flowcode and QR TIGER do not name a region. For a buyer with a data-residency requirement, that is the line to get in writing before anything else.
What happens to your printed codes
This is the question that matters most once codes are on packaging, signage or print, and the answers differ more than the prices do.
- QR.io: dynamic codes pause when the trial or a subscription ends and come back only by resubscribing on the same account; its help centre says a code cannot be reactivated by creating a new account.
- QRCodeKIT: the two free codes keep working indefinitely. Codes on a lapsed paid plan are deactivated and come back when the plan is renewed; the account and data stay.
- Hovercode: the first three codes stay live; others pause and return on resubscribing. Codes on a custom domain stop.
- ME-QR: codes keep working with ads on every plan below Premium, and a code not scanned for 365 days is blocked, then deleted.
- QR TIGER: codes stop; data kept for up to a year for a late renewal.
- Flowcode: its help centre says codes keep scanning after cancellation, with the two most recent still editable; its terms say codes above the free allowance are archived and redirected.
- Bitly: codes keep scanning on bit.ly; codes on the complimentary domain stop when Bitly stops renewing it.
Only two platforms let a code you print today work, free of ads, in five years without paying: QRCodeKIT for two codes with a renewing monthly allowance, and Hovercode for three codes with unlimited scans.
How to move without reprinting
You cannot move a printed QR.io code. QR.io lists no custom domain, so every dynamic code resolves through qr.io, qr.codes or qr.link, and only QR.io can point it somewhere else. Leaving means reprinting, so do it once: put the new codes on a domain you own, and the next move is a DNS change rather than a print run. QRCodeKIT includes one on Pro, Hovercode on Pro, ME-QR on its free plan, QR TIGER on Premium and Flowcode on Growth. Bitly's complimentary domain is registered to Bitly and cannot be transferred; a domain you bought yourself and connected on Growth can. Note your QR.io scan statistics before the subscription ends; QR.io's pages say nothing about exporting them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best QR.io alternative?
For most teams, QRCodeKIT: two dynamic codes free for life with no ads, plans from $20 a month, a custom domain you own and ten seats on Pro at $50, EU hosting, and three things no other platform on this list offers: Cleo, an AI agent that answers whoever scans, invisible QR codes, and Google Reviews codes with AI-drafted reviews. Hovercode for the most generous free tier, ME-QR for volume if you pay for Premium, QR TIGER for the cheapest monthly plan, Flowcode for design and HIPAA, Bitly for link-first teams.
Is there a free alternative to QR.io?
Yes. QRCodeKIT keeps two dynamic codes free for life with 100 scans per code each month, renewing, and no ads. Hovercode keeps three free with unlimited scans and no ads. Flowcode's two free codes keep scanning, with analytics for the first 500 scans. ME-QR's free codes show advertising to the people who scan, and QR TIGER's stop after 500 scans each. QR.io has a 7-day trial, after which dynamic codes pause.
Which alternative is cheapest for a handful of codes?
QR TIGER's Regular plan is $7 a month for 12 codes, and Hovercode's Pro is $12 a month for 100 codes with a custom domain. QRCodeKIT's Starter is $240 a year for 100 codes, and its free plan covers two. QR.io charges $39.99 a month or $350 a year whatever the number.
Which alternative offers unlimited codes like QR.io?
None of the six sells unlimited codes on its published self-serve plans, but ME-QR's Premium allows a million codes, ad-free, with the API, for $8.67 a month billed yearly. Hovercode's Business adds 600 codes a month and QRCodeKIT's Enterprise holds 5,000.
Can I move my QR.io codes to another platform?
No. QR.io lists no custom domain, so its dynamic codes resolve through QR.io's own domains and cannot be repointed from elsewhere. Moving means reprinting; print the new codes on a domain you own so that the next move does not.
Does any QR.io alternative have AI?
Several. QRCodeKIT, Hovercode, ME-QR, QR TIGER and Bitly publish MCP servers that let assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT work on the account; QRCodeKIT's and Hovercode's are included on every plan, including free. QR TIGER has Sena, an analytics chat, on Professional, and Flowcode and Hovercode have AI design generators. Only QRCodeKIT has Cleo, an AI agent at the scan that answers the person who scanned. QR.io publishes no AI features.
